The Matsusaka experience: World-class beef, traditional kimono, and historical city walks

Matsusaka, not just a city known for its world-famous beef. There is also a rich historical tradition and ancient architectural structures to explore and experience.

We absorbed as much information as we could, but that Matsusaka Beef was calling my name so it was off back to the guest house to try our hand at cooking a Sukiyaki lunch with our prized ingredients.

Yoshiko had everything ready and prepped for us and showed us how to cook up our lunch feast. It was a lot of fun to make it ourselves and as a keen cook myself, I was happy to learn a few new techniques.
After a quick pan-fry, no oil needed, we dipped our thin beef cuts into raw egg – and enjoy! We were in heaven for the next 30 minutes or so. It's very cliched, to say, but “melt in your mouth” are the only words that come to mind. Just pure wonderful.
The Matsusaka momen was easy to move around in when I was cooking. It is also easy to wash.

And that brought us to the end of our little step back into the history of this ancient town. It was a fantastic experience, both for the sights and the treat to the tastebuds. I look forward to visiting again in the springtime when all the cherry blossoms are in bloom around the castle ruins area.
For a fun and educational day out, be sure to stop by Matsusaka. Also, be sure to pop by and visit Yoshiko at Utsukushiya. She has a wealth of information and is more than happy to share her knowledge of the area and its rich history.
