Making Delicious Mehari-zushi: Traditional Japan in Your Hands

Mehari-zushi is a unique, local delicacy from Kumano City. You can make (and eat!) your own at the charming Kumano Kodo - Omotenashi-kan, a place that will make you feel as if you’ve stepped back into traditional Japan.

A specialty of Kumano City is mikan. Be sure and pick up a bag of these sweet citrus fruits on your way to the Kumano Kodo - Omotenashi-kan

Walking Around the Area

Of course, there’s plenty more to see and do in Kumano. Along with Kumano Kodo (a bucket list destination if ever there was one), there’s Hana no Iwaya Shrine, Onigajo, Maruyama Senmaida, and so many more incredible spots. If you get tired of walking, just hop on the local tourist bus. Timetables are written in English as well so there’s no need to worry about Japanese characters.
