Hajikami-toge (Kumanokodo Iseji) 始神峠(熊野古道伊勢路)

The 147 meters high Hajikami-toge Pass is part of the historic Kumano kodo pilgrimage trails. The trail offers two scenic routes to the pass and visitors can appreciate a wonderful view of the Kumano Sea from when they reach the top.

The historic Kumano kodo pilgrimage trails offer a diverse range of trekking experiences for all levels of hikers. The Hajikami-toge Pass near Kihoku Town is about 3.5 km long and takes most people just under two hours to finish.
From the trailhead, hikers can choose to take the Edo or Meiji route to the pass. The Edo route is slightly more strenuous, but both routes are suitable for all skill levels. From the top of the pass, can choose the route of their descent based on where they prefer to finish the hike.
At the top of the pass, the reward for getting to the top is a spectacular view of the coastline and islands of the Kumano Sea. On a clear day, it is possible to see the Shima Peninsula, which is over 40 km away. There are benches at the pass to sit and enjoy the views at your leisure before starting your descent.
