Tategasaki 楯ヶ崎

See the breathtaking basalt pillars of Tategasaki from a pleasure boat cruise of Nigishima Bay. You will also visit the Blue Grotto of Kumano and experience the spectacular rias coast from the best vantage point possible.

The rias coastline around Nigishima Bay in Kumano City has some of the most incredible rock formations you will see anywhere. Formed from cooling lava around 14 million years ago, the unique basalt pillars create a rugged and breathtaking scene along the edge of the water. Tategasaki is the star attraction of the bay due to its sheer size and massive 80-meter high rock face.

If you want to see these amazing formations up close, a pleasure boat cruise is your best option. The tour will include a visit to Onigajo, a chance to float inside the breathtaking Blue Grotto of Kumano, a stop at the base of Tategasaki and a close-up view of the massive cliffs of Umi Kongo.

You will see the beauty of the coastline as it can only be seen from the water. Breathe the fresh sea air and be astonished by the dramatic rock formations of Nigishima Bay.
