EXPLORING THE BEAUTY OF KOMONO TOWN~Mountain,Aqua,Forest~

Today we headed to the beautiful town of Komono, home to not only one of the most famous mountains in Mie Prefecture but also the only place you can ski in Mie, Mt.Gozaisho! Mt.Gozaisho was our first destination of the day.
Daniel and I last visited Mt. Gozaisho in the winter of 2008 when we took our children sledding.I was excited to be able to come to Gozaisho for the first time in a while.

My name is Isis Akemi Muto, from Sao Paulo, Brazil.
I’ve been living in Mie Prefecture, Japan, for the past 23 years. Although I have been living in Mie for a long time, I’m ashamed to say that I don’t know much about the prefecture I live in.
So,recently, my husband and I started doing some day-trips around Mie.

It’s a gorgeous bakery with many types of bread, which actually made it difficult for us to decide which one to pick because everything looked so delicious, this place will definitely leave your mouth watering.

I was curious and asked Ms. Urasima which option is more popular among Japanese customers and of course, it had to be the croissant, as well as the curry bread with Matsusaka beef, known to be one of the best beef in Japan. But if you prefer something sweeter, not to worry, because they have bread for all tastes, like the American’s favorite pie, Apple Pie, and the seasonal Christmas German bread, Stollen.

Today however, I chose the ones I love. Chocolate bread and bacon and cheese bread. And as I expected, it was crispy and soft with a delicious flavour and pleasant smell. Choose the bread, eat it on site in their comfortable dining area, or get a table outdoors by the reflecting pool, or even take it home, but if you come to Aquaignis, you have to buy the delicious bread of “Mariage de Farine”.

The entire resort is an incredible place where you can spend the day, stay the weekend or even come to do something specific like relaxing in their all-natural hot springs Kataoka Onsen, taste local delicacies or enjoy picking strawberries.

At this time of the year, people from all over Japan go to strawberry farms to eat all you can pick, and the strawberries from Aquaignis are quite famous. Ms. Urasima told us that they grow 19 different types of strawberries in their 100m long greenhouse, and I thought there was just one type of strawberry, silly me! They promise that the strawberries here will be sweeter and tastier than any other you will find at stores and guess what?! They were! Before I even started tasting them, I got impressed by the vivid red color and the size! The fresh mouth-watering strawberries hanging over the rows were were really delicious and so juicy!

With our bellies full, we headed to our 3rd destination of the day, which took us only 3 minutes by car from Aquaignis.
Komono Town has a variety of tourist attractions within easy reach.
“Forest Adventure Yunoyama!”This place was going to put our fear of heights to the test once again, at least mine and our son’s.

Forest Adventure Yunoyama is not about hiking or camping in the woods, it’s a park located in the middle of an amazing forest to test your limits.

Forest Adventure Yunoyama is a place that I always wanted to bring our son. I got really excited when I found out that it was one of today’s destinations, since our son is now at the perfect age to enjoy the adventure. (there is a height and an age limit to be able to enjoy this activity.) Curious to know how this fun works?

Mr. Sasaki welcomed us at the reception and gave us a brief explanation about the regulations, then we chose our favorite color jumpsuits and got the gloves. Yup, I was super excited! Or maybe the smile was to hide the anxiety that was running through my veins.

Jumpsuits on and it was time to put on the climbing harness.
And we watched the video about safety and how to handle the equipment once you’re up at the tree. After watching the video, we also had a practical training so that Mr. Sasaki could evaluate if we understood what was explained in the video, and we passed with flying colors. Once at the platform, we were in charge of our own equipment and safety.

The time we were all waiting for had finally arrived, and up we went to our first platform. Once up there, I kept telling myself “don’t look down, don’t look down” but I realized ”I had to look down” to see where I was going to step.

Our goal is to reach the next wooden platform, but how can we do that? We need to cross what should be more of a "walkway" than a "bridge". In some parts of the course, the highest platforms were between 12 and 10 meters high (according to Mr.Sasaki), but all the harnesses remain attached to the cables, so there is no fear of them falling.

There were so many types of aerial trails. Some were made of ropes, but most of them, made of wood. ... some were fun ...

.. others, a bit challenging ...

... some were easy ...

... others, not so much!
This one in particular, I thought was the most difficult one. It required much more balance and strength than the others did. And at that moment, I realized the importance of physical training as I hadn’t trained for months.

And the one we were all looking forward to doing (my son, not so much), “the zip slide”. The zip slide is 100 meters long. It looks a litte bit scary, but this experience was exhilarating. It was so fast that there was no time to be frightened, I just enjoyed the moment and screamed all the way! I think screaming helps to release the tension.

And not satisfied with doing “the one person zip slide”, we did “the double zip slide”! And only in Forest Adventure Yunoyama can you do the double zip slide in the forest.
