Iga is a lovely city that is bursting with history and tradition. Most famous for being the birth place of ninja, there are many unique experiences that visitors can sign up for. For people who are interested in crafts, you can go to Kumi no Sato, a shop that sells a wide range of colorful kumihimo braided products and offers workshops where you can weave your own keepsake from your visit. Choose your own colors and learn how to weave the beautiful thread using a wooden marudai in the same method that has been passed down for 1,300 years. You can make braids in the same style used by samurai to decorate their armor and swords. Since the Meiji Period, the colorful kumihimo have been used to secure the obi on a kimono. Expert instructors will teach you the ancient technique of hand weaving and you will get to take your creation home as a memory of your visit.
